How it started
Why do hijabs have colour names not numbers? Most brands give colours a code. We give them a name. When we were developing the first collection we had a spreadsheet with colour references. Each shade had a hex code and a supplier code. We kept referring to them by description in conversation and it became obvious that the descriptions were better. Champagne Mist was always Champagne Mist in the room, never #D4C9B8.
What a colour name does that a code cannot
A name does something cognitive that a code does not. It tells you something about the feeling of the colour before you have seen it. Sage Garden and Deep Sage both describe green. But they describe different greens with different personalities. The name does work that a visual swatch cannot always do on a screen.
The connection to intention
This is also connected to how we think about the brand more broadly. We are making pieces for women who think about what they wear. A piece called Twilight Ether carries something different than one called Hijab Style 47. The name is an invitation to notice what you are choosing and why. This is why hijabs have colour names not numbers — the name is part of the intention.

Why some names reference nature
Most of our names reference the natural world. Morning light, water, stone, plant life. This is deliberate. Modesty in Islamic tradition is often described through imagery of nature. The Quran draws on rain, trees, light. We are not making a theological claim. We are working in the same aesthetic tradition.
